Losing her will leave you stranded in the ocean
and moving on will happen in waves.
You will learn to keep your head above water
and think you are safe
and then there will be the times
where you are drowning in the tides of her.
Do not abandon hope.
It will be painful and it will be slow
but little by little you will let go,
and then you will learn to float
out to a much calmer sea.
You will encounter the stormy nights
where you want nothing more
than to call her and say “I miss you.”
But instead you will turn off your lights
and force yourself to go to sleep
and you will realize you are learning to swim alone.
You will endure the turbulent thoughts
about how life without her foundation
is venturing into the great unknown.
But with time
life will provide pieces of your new future
and you will realize you’ve built yourself a boat.
And maybe sometimes the winds will change
and you will get turned around
or lose your way.
But you will learn to read a compass
and every time you will get back on track
just a little bit faster than before.
You will keep fighting to push the thought of her away
until one day you are so far out
that she is a just a speck in the distance.
